10 Years On

2008 marks the tenth year since the inception of DanceSport Australia.

The South Australian Branch of DanceSport Australia was established as the local body to implement and foster the development fo Dancesport - the sport of the Ballroom. This sport has grown out of Ballroom Dancing that was previously run by the previous Australian Dancing Board. In 1998 Australia embraced IDSF as the world organising body for DanceSport as a sport aimed totally at gaining selection within the Olympic Family.

DanceSport Australia is recognised as the peak body for Ballroom Competition in Australia, by the Australian Olympic Committee, Australian Sports Commission, and by state governments around the country. DanceSport Australia [DSA] is a member of Sport Industry Australia and the International DanceSport Federation [IDSF].

DanceSport SA through the local branch operates monthly meetings to discuss correspondence, competitor issues, competition/championship registrations, rules and ethics, accreditation of coaches and adjudicators. The local branch also conducts workshops and training courses for all members.

Highlights in recent years have included the very successful SA Open Championships [currently planned for 2009], Funding from the SA Office for Rec and Sports [winning successive funding submissions2003-2010], participation in the BeActive promotion at the Royal Adelaide Show [2005].

The local Branch has consistently attracted involvement from local competitors, coaches and general members - elections are held bi-annually in "even" years
